WEEKEND IN WICHITA (A LIST POEM)
Art box, Airbnb hastily “cleaned,”
All will be well,
Books backlit in a window, books and more books,
Boundaries, bed bugs, belonging.
Cinnamon brooms,
Coffee in hand-sized cups with sippy lids, chaos-capable,
Ditching and deep chats,
Eighth Day, embodied practices, Edison bulbs,
Fuzzy head, four new faces, fast friends,
Glorious sun, grief, groovy gray-haired hymn singers,
Goodbyes and hellos,
Huddled heads praying, hobbit hole, and holy body,
Iced Americano, Irish brogue,
I don’t know,
Jaunts around the pond,
Kenough, Kansas…well done!
Light you are held in, listening postures,
Life is beautiful,
Mexican food, margaritas--salt-rimmed, margarita to go,
New friendship, narratives, nudes on the wall,
Open hands,
Picnic table and patience, peanut butter and porch swing,
Poetry,
Quakers and quotes on bathroom walls,
Reading aloud and rewiring brains,
Road trip talks and rolled tempura paint,
Silence, stairs, sun through stained glass,
Slow childhood,
Souls can’t bear perpetual propulsion,
Trying new things and transformation,
Unoffendability and unity,
Vision after curiosity,
Wild geese and worship floating to God,
Examened hearts thumping in unison,
Yoga in the sun, you are a lion,
Zero need to be elsewhere.
